The Jamai Palace was built in the late 19th century; construction of the original building began in 1879 under Grand Vizier Mohamed ben Arbi el Jamai.
The palace is built in the “Moroccan/Moorish palace-house” style typical of the era and combines prestigious residential functions, social symbolism, and the refinement of local craftsmanship.
Restoring a historic building like the Jamaï Palace requires respecting traditional aesthetics (zellige, stucco, woodwork, arches) while incorporating modern standards of comfort, safety, thermal comfort, and hotel amenities. It is a true challenge to strike a balance between heritage and modernity.
The new hotel project was to include 31 suites and 60 guest rooms, reflecting a shift toward a high-end, more intimate hospitality experience that respects the historic atmosphere.
